SolarTown's Planet Kits Just Got an Upgrade

Man setting up solar panels on a rocky beachWe've redesigned our Planet Kit line around EcoFlow power centers, and we want to show you what they can do.

The short version: these are the most accessible off-grid power kits we've ever offered. They're fully plug-and-play, super portable, and versatile enough to work whether you're roughing it on the road or installing a permanent fixture at an off-grid homestead.

If you've been looking for a lightweight, all-in-one off-grid solar kit to follow you wherever life takes you, these kits were built with you in mind.

The Planet Kit Philosophy: Simple and Portable

Most off-grid solar installations involve some level of commitment: you're mounting panels to a foundation, running a mess of wires, and thinking about where your battery bank is going to live for the next decade.

These kits bypass that entire process. The EcoFlow power center is completely plug and play - it can be set up and packed away in just a few minutes. You can set up a charging station with your solar panels at home, then simply unhook the power center and load it into your trunk when it's time for an adventure.

Here's what we like about the EcoFlow series:

Portable by design: The power center is self-contained and built to move. At approximately 27 pounds, you can easily stow it in the garage between uses, wheel it out to the yard for a party, load it in the van for a camping trip, set it up at a jobsite or craft fair booth. The possibilities are endless - it goes where you go.

Plug-and-play: No complex electrical connections or laborious permitting process. Plug your solar panels into the power center to charge it. Plug your devices into the power center to run them. Setup and teardown takes a few minutes. No technical experience required.

Plenty of ports: 6 AC outlets, 6 USB ports, plus 12V DC and a car charging port are all built in. Hosting an outdoor event? You can run lights, speakers, an electric grill, a coffee maker, and charge your friends' phones, without the need to fight over outlets.

4 ways to recharge: Solar is the most sustainable charging method, but these units also charge from a standard AC wall outlet, a DC source, or a car charger. During stormy periods where sunlight isn't available, or when you're on the road and choose to leave the panels at home, you stillX have charging options.

Who These Kits Are For

These kits handle light to moderate usage out of the box, with recharge cycles ranging from a few hours to a full day (based on the solar and storage capacity of each kit). They're not designed for heavy power draws like electric water heaters or central air, but they cover a wide range of real-world situations:

  • Camping and overlanding: run a fridge, charge devices, power lights and a fan without relying on campsite hookups
  • Outdoor events and hosting: power an outdoor kitchen setup, audio, lighting, and device charging from one unit
  • Remote work and vendor setups: reliable power for a laptop, monitor, lighting, and payment terminal at a market booth or field site
  • Job sites and workshops: run tools and lighting in locations without utility power
  • Off-grid cabins and properties: cover the everyday essentials for modest, energy-conscious usage
  • Emergency backup: keep it charged in the shed or garage, then pull it out to run essential appliances during outages

This list isn't exhaustive - we're sure you'll find creative ways to use it that we haven't thought of yet.

The Kit Lineup

Four kits, scaled by battery capacity and solar charging speed:

Mercury - 300W Solar / 1.8kW AC Output / 1 kWh Battery

Built for short trips with modest power needs. Handles LED lights, phone and laptop charging, a 12V mini fridge, and low-draw appliances. Plan on 1-2 days of light use before needing a recharge, and leave the high-draw appliances at home.

Venus - 400W Solar / 2.4kW AC Output / 2 kWh Battery

Steps up to 2 kWh of storage with 400W of solar. Covers a fuller set of everyday essentials: an energy-efficient fridge, router, lights, and device charging, with enough inverter capacity to handle occasional surge loads like a blender or toaster. Figure on a full day of sun to recharge the battery.

Shop The Venus Kit

Mars - 800W Solar / 2.4kW AC Output / 2 kWh Battery

Same 2 kWh battery as the Venus, but with 800W of solar instead of 400W. The difference is recharge speed: the Mars can replenish a full battery in 2-4 hours of good sun rather than a full day. If you're running moderate loads and want to keep the battery topped off throughout the day rather than waiting on it, the Mars is the better fit.

Jupiter - 1200W Solar / 3.6kW AC Output / 3.6 kWh Battery

The most capable kit in the line. 3.6 kWh of storage and 1200W of solar make this one viable for modest off-grid properties where you need reliable, self-sufficient power day to day. Covers an energy-efficient fridge, lighting, router, device charging, and periodic use of higher-draw appliances., like coffee makers, blenders, and power tools.

All four kits support add-on batteries if you need more storage capacity down the road, up to two additional batteries based on the power center's available capacity.

Rich Solar Panels: Efficient & Durable Rigid-Frame Panels

To handle the task of recharging, we selected Rich Solar's line of mid-sized, rigid-frame solar panels to bundle into these kits. These are efficient, monocrystalline panels with a smaller form factor than traditional rooftop solar panels, making them easier to stow in a garage, or find space for them on a road trip.

We opted for rigid-frame panels over flexible panels, and the reason is simple: longevity. The solid frame makes the panels more durable for (semi) permanent homestead installations. While flexible panels are nice in situations where space is at a premium (think RV/van life), we find they are prone to warping and have a shorter lifecycle.
