Work With Us

We're a small, remote team helping DIYers take charge of their own energy. If you like solar, honest work, and not being micromanaged, keep reading.

What It's Like Here

SolarTown is a California-based e-commerce company specializing in DIY solar equipment. We've been in business since 2010, helping over 5,000 homeowners install their own solar systems. Our customers are independent, hands-on people who want to do things themselves — and we like to think we are too.

We operate 100% remotely with a lean team of about 10 people. No office politics, no unnecessary meetings. We hire people who can manage their own time and get things done without being watched.

What We Offer

  • Fully remote. Work from wherever you want.
  • Flexible hours. We care about output, not clock-watching.
  • Small team. Your work actually matters and gets noticed.
  • Real products. We sell equipment that helps people become energy independent.
  • No BS. Straightforward communication, honest feedback.

Your Work in the Real World

Who Does Well Here

We're not for everyone. We're a good fit if you:

  • Can work independently without constant direction
  • Communicate clearly and proactively, especially when something's wrong
  • Are comfortable with ambiguity and figuring things out
  • Take ownership of problems instead of passing them along
  • Have genuine interest in solar, renewable energy, or helping DIYers

We're probably not a good fit if you need a lot of structure, prefer frequent check-ins, or want a corporate environment with clear promotion paths.

Open Positions

We don't always have open positions, but we're always interested in hearing from good people. Check back here for current openings, or send us your info below.

Technical Solar Sales Consultant

Remote · Full-Time · Base + Commission

Our customers are technically-minded homeowners, off-gridders, and small installers. They've done their research and they ask hard questions. This is a consultative sales role. You'll help them figure out what they actually need, design a system that makes sense, and earn their trust.

No cold calling. No pressure tactics. Our process is built around providing value and letting good work do the selling.

What You'll Do

  • Call inbound leads, build rapport, and design accurate system quotes
  • Walk customers through grid-tied, off-grid, hybrid, and commercial options
  • Manage your pipeline in Zoho CRM: deal stages, follow-ups, notes
  • Handle objections by actually knowing the product and the customer
  • Support occasional B2B work with dealers and small installers

What We're Looking For

  • 3–5 years of solar sales experience
  • Working knowledge across grid-tied, off-grid, hybrid, and C&I applications
  • Current familiarity with major brands and equipment
  • CRM experience (Zoho is a plus)
  • Comfortable working fully remote with minimal oversight
  • Consultative mindset. Honest about what a system will and won't do.

Compensation

Competitive base + commission. Our average deal size is meaningful, and our pipeline of inbound leads is consistent. Hours aligned with Pacific Time.

How to Apply

Send your resume and answers to the questions below to [email protected]. Answer in your own words. We're looking for how you think, not polished corporate-speak.

Application Questions

  1. Walk us through a solar sale you're proud of. What made it work? What kind of system was it, and what was the customer's situation?
  2. Describe how you handle a lead who ghosts you after you send a quote. What's your follow-up process, and at what point do you move on?
  3. A customer wants to upgrade the battery bank in their existing off-grid system. What questions do you ask them to make the best recommendation?
  4. What CRM tools have you used, and what process has worked best for you in managing leads?

No cover letter required. Just your resume and answers to the questions above.
