Spring is in the Air and Solar is in the Backyard

Spring is in the air in Washington, DC after a long winter of snow and blizzards. People have finally retrieved their snowbound cars and are back jogging in the park and tending their gardens. This is the perfect time to think about taking solar outdoors. As the weather is getting better, we are getting a lot of inquiries about how to size your solar RV kit or your marine solar kit. Like sizing other solar energy systems, it all depends on what your energy needs are—not on how big your RV or boat is, but how much energy you need on your RV or boat.  You need to know what your energy usage is before you purchase a solar RV kit or marine solar kit. Whatever solar energy system you use on your boat or RV, one thing is for sure, you are going to enjoy it much more than if you had to listen to a noisy generator as you are trying to enjoy and appreciate the outdoors.

And now that it is spring, you are interested in cooking outdoors. Sure you can bring your butane canisters, but you don’t need to anymore. You may want to consider a solar oven. SolarTown carries two models of solar ovens and you can take your choice. If you are not sure how they work, take a look at one of solar outdoor videos to show a solar oven in operation.

Now we are not going to recommend that you bring a solar fridge or solar freezer on your picnic to Rock Creek Park. We have received orders recently from those who work in the developing world and need these solar systems as the only means to refrigerate their food in otherwise primitive living conditions. In the US, if you have a cabin or other remote location where you need to cool your food, then you should consider one of our solar refrigerators.

I am somewhat hesitant to recommend taking your computer on a picnic. I get this image of backpacking in the backcountry of Yosemite and find someone checking his or her email. Shouldn’t you leave your computer behind while you enjoy the outdoors? But if you must, take a look at some of our portable solar modules.  While you are having a picnic with your family, and want to turn on your computer to check the weather, then we have several solutions to help you power up your computer, radio, telephone with solar power.

If solar will help you get out of the office this spring, then you have to get one of these solar devices to help bring a little bit of comfort to your picnic or camping trip. Spring is here!
